Our mission work in Mozambique is rooted in partnership with local churches. Together, we seek to meet immediate needs while helping people develop practical paths toward greater stability.

This includes feeding people, teaching skills that can help families generate income, and supporting poultry projects that provide chickens for meat and eggs. The goal is both nourishment for children and an opportunity for households and local ministries to build a sustainable source of food and income.

A story of suffering and resilience

Hardship is real.
But it is not the whole story.

Mozambique gained independence in 1975 after centuries of Portuguese colonial rule, but a devastating civil war followed from 1977 until 1992. The years since have brought progress and new opportunities, yet the benefits have not reached every family equally.

Repeated cyclones, floods, droughts, economic shocks, and conflict—especially in the north—have damaged homes, interrupted farming and work, displaced families, and deepened food insecurity. In many rural communities, poverty limits access to nutritious food, education, healthcare, safe water, and reliable ways to earn an income. Children often carry the heaviest burden of hunger and malnutrition.

Yet the people of Mozambique are not defined by poverty. These communities are filled with courage, generosity, creativity, faith, and a deep desire to build a better future. Our posture is partnership, not pity: listening to local churches, honoring local leadership, and standing beside families as they strengthen their own communities.

Local churches know their communities and serve families directly. Grace River strengthens that work through relationship, practical support, and shared Christian mission.

These bags contain feed for the chickens. Reliable feed helps the poultry project care for its flock and work toward producing eggs and meat for children, families, and local ministry while supporting a sustainable source of food and income.

A message of hope

The Gospel is good news for the whole person.

We believe God sees every child, every mother, every father, and every community. Poverty does not diminish a person’s worth, and suffering does not have the final word. Every person is made in the image of God and is worthy of love, dignity, and hope.

Jesus entered human suffering, welcomed children, fed hungry people, healed the brokenhearted, and proclaimed good news to the poor. Through His death and resurrection, He offers forgiveness, reconciliation with God, and a hope that reaches beyond present circumstances.

“I was hungry and you gave me food.”Matthew 25:35

That is why practical help and the message of Jesus belong together in our mission. We share food because Christian love must become action. We teach and encourage income-generating work because dignity includes the opportunity to provide. We support local churches because they remain present, know their communities, and can continue walking with families long after a visit ends.

To the people of Mozambique: you are seen, you are valued, and you are not forgotten. May God strengthen your hands, protect your children, bless the work of local churches, and fill every family with courage. In Jesus Christ, there is grace for today and hope for tomorrow.
